Sometimes coming up with pattern ideas are difficult and I decided to go to my Goddess Oracle Deck for some inspiration. The first card I pulled was Mother Mary with the message “Have faith that your prayers have been heard and are being answered.” This card always shows up when I need some hope and confidence that I’m on the right path.

I searched my stash of yarn and found some minis I had dyed up for Meghan Makes Do Coffee Collection from a few years ago. With the theme of light and goodness, and the stars surrounding Mary’s head, I decided to design a mat specifically for under my candles on my window sill but it’s also the perfect mug rug size!
So without further ado here is the pattern for the Starlight Candle Mat.
Not ready to make this yet? Pin it for later!

You will need:
– DK Weight Yarn, 1-4 colors.
– 3.5mm Hook
– Scissors
– Stitch Marker (Optional – for marking beginning of round)
– Tapestry Needle
Gauge:
Not super important for this particular pattern but I crocheted 8 rounds in the pattern and measured from the center out.
8 rounds x 5 stitches = 2 x 2 inches
Abbreviations:
- HdcB3 – Half Double Crochet through Back Loop and 3 Loop
- Sc – Single Crochet
- Dc – Double Crochet
- Tc – Triple Crochet
- Ch(s) – Chain
- St(s) – Stich(es)
- SlSt – Slip Stitch
- R – Round
- BLO – Back Loop Only
Notes
- When the number comes before the stitch (2 Hdc) this means place 2 Hdc in a stitch.
- When the number comes after (Hdc 2) this means Hdc in the next two stitches.
- Do NOT join after each round.
- Instructions within [ ] are placed in a single stitch.
- Stitch counts include chains.
