Emeline Shawl | Free Crochet Pattern

Hi welcome (back) to the blog!

The Emeline Shawl is an asymmetrical shawl that I created in search for an easy to remember project using one of my favorite stitches, the Forked Cluster, that made good use of some yarn I hand dyed.

Several months ago I had found some bare DK skeins in my basement and decided to break out the yarn dyeing supplies. I dyed 5 skeins of a brown fade and several micro skeins.

This pattern is such a good stash buster if you have a lot of DK sitting around. You can do your own color work from a solid to striping the whole shawl – get creative!

If you would like to watch the YouTube tutorials you can click the images below. When it comes to crochet I always provide left and right handed videos. Now let’s get to the pattern!

If you would like the purchase the ad-free PDF, you can find the pattern on Etsy or Ravlery.

Notes:

  • In Row 1 the Forked Cluster + DC are in one stitch.
  • The rest of the pattern all Forked Clusters are worked across 2 stitches, including the BFC
  • Beginning Forked Cluster (BFC): YO, insert hook into first stitch, pull up a loop, (3 loops on hook), YO, insert hook into second stitch, pull up a loop, (5 loops on hook), YO, pull through 3 loops, YO, pull through 3 loops.
  • Forked Clusters after BFC start in the same stitch as the second leg of the previous FC.
  • Forked Cluster(FC): YO, insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop, (3 loops on hook), YO, insert hook into following stitch, pull up a loop, (5 loops on hook), YO, pull through 3 loops, YO, pull through 3 loops.
  • Shawl can be worked to desired length, solid colors or striped – be creative.
  • Color Work: If you’d like to work the colors the exact way I did you can skip to the Color Work section on the following page.
  • Color Work Formula: I used 5 balls of hand dyed yarn in brown (Color A) and 3 micro skeins in green (Color B), pink (Color C), and orange (Color D).
    • I worked the 1 ball of Color A until I ran out after completing a FC row.
    • First Striped Section: Use Color B for HDC rows + use Color A for FC rows until you run out of Color B.
    • Continue to work with Color A until you run out of the second ball.
    • Second Striped Section: Use Color C for FC rows  + Color A for HDC rows until you run out of Color C.
    • Continue to work with Color A until you run out of third ball.
    • Third Striped Section: Use Color D for HDC rows + use Color A for FC rows until you run out of Color D.
    • Continue to work with Color A until you run out of 4th and 5th ball.
