Hi, how’s it going? It’s almost Halloween and I thought that it was the perfect time to bring my Buccaneer Beanie to the blog. You can also find the video tutorial on YouTube. If you prefer an ad-free PDF you can find it on Etsy or Ravelry.

– Materials –
Super Bulky Yarn in 2 colors
I used Lion Brand
Wool Ease Thick and Quick
8mm + 9mm 16” Circular Needles
Stitch Marker
Tapestry Needle
Optional: Pom Pom

– Abbreviations –
K – Knit
P – Purl
MC – Main Color
CC – Contrasting Color
K2tog – Knit 2 stitches together
st(s) – Stitch(es)
– Gauge –
9 stitches x 16 rows = 4×4 inches
In stockinette, using larger needles.
– Notes –
- This pattern has 2 sizes. The original pattern was one size but I’ve included a second size that is larger and follows a different chart where the cross bones are a little wider. If you prefer the original chart but you want a larger hat you could just size up your needle, and for a smaller hat, size down your needles.
- Sizing: Instruction for the L/XL will be in (…).
- When working with the two colors, make sure to carry the yarn loosely across the back. If you pull the non-working yarn (float) too tight it will throw the sizing off and make the design uneven.
- When carrying a float across more than 5-6 stitches make sure to trap it by weaving over and under the working yarn.
- When casting on I use the long tail cast on – feel free to use your preferred method.
- To join in the round: First make sure that the stitches are not twisted. The stitch you casted on last should be on your right hand needle (A). Slip the first stitch you cast on (B) from the left needle to the right needle. Pass the stitch A over stitch B. You should now have 44 (48) stitches and ready to knit.
- Chart: The white blocks are the main color, the gray blocks are contrasting color.

To finish: Leaving a long tail, cut the yarn. Use your tapestry needle to weave tail through remaining stitches while slipping the stitches off the needles OR you could use a separate piece of yarn. Turn hat inside out, cinch and tie closed. Weave in ends.
Thank you so much for being here and happy making.
